They played with well-known bands like the "Ärzte". They are currently making a successful comeback: The Brucker rock band "Best Years". The name says it all.

Fürstenfeldbruck - The Brucker rock band "BestYears" had its best years so far in the 1980s. They even played together with the German punk stars “Die Ärzte”. Now two musicians from the quartet are making a comeback. The band name is the program again: At the age of 52, singer Michael Oswald and drummer Christian Schlosser are in their prime.

"Our Life for the Rock'n'Roll" is the name of the CD with which "BestYears" is currently taking off. “Not everyone does an album again at the age of 52,” Oswald says in an interview with Tagblatt. But the effort was worth it: In the radio show "Raven Rock" with Jörn Krieger, which was broadcast on the Internet radio "90.Vier", among other things, the CD runs up and down. And at Amazon it was already number 32 on the Rock'n'Roll sales charts.

"Suddenly you're standing next to Bela B."

Rock'n'Roll was indeed the genre that the quartet had dedicated to when it was founded. That was in 1980. "BestYears" started their career as a school band in Gilching (district of Starnberg). Actually, a teacher is to blame for the rock band, says Oswald. "He wanted to encourage students to make music." Oswald and Schlosser had two other classmates tied them up at the time, but wanted to do more with themselves. Back then under the name "Greekets" the quartet played at various concerts in the district and could always look at crowded rows of spectators.

The band later expanded their circle - initially to all of Bavaria, later to Berlin. "The appearances in Joe's Bar in Berlin were real highlights," recalls Oswald. They owed that they played at all in the former pub of today's federal capital thanks to a procedure based on the motto "cheekiness wins".

“We were told about the pub, where every musician - no matter what style - is allowed to perform.” Instead of inquiring by phone or sending a demo to Joe's Bar, “BestYears” traveled to Berlin personally. “They listened to our demo tape in Joe's Bar,” says Oswald. The first performance took place on the same evening.

The Brucker also celebrated their biggest highlight in the in-pub. In 1989 they played a concert together with the cult punk "Die Ärzte". “Then you suddenly stand right next to Bela B,” says Oswald. Shortly afterwards, the band broke up.

The musicians found each other again in 1991 and wanted to start a pure studio project. "But that failed because of the immense costs," says Oswald. Oswald in particular, but also locksmiths, never let go of their passion for music.

CD recorded in our own studio

And so the duo started again in 2008 - initially "actually only as fun", as Oswald explains. But over time the project became more and more professional. Finally, when he remodeled his house, Schlosser also set up his own recording studio. "There was no going back," says Oswald.

The duo composed 13 varied and worth listening songs, which can now be found on the album "Our Life for the Rock'n'Roll". The style of “BestYears” has changed significantly since the early days - away from pure rock'n'roll to harder rock music. You won't find cover versions at "BestYears". Oswald and Schlosser were inspired by scene greats like The Offspring, Social Distortion or Life of Agony. "Composing yourself is our hobbyhorse," says Oswald. Recorded in their own studio and mixed in the "Dorian Gray" studios in Eichenau, the Brucker duo also found a record label in "recordJet" that released the CD. The promotion of the label obviously has an effect, as the sales - and not least the airplay on the radio - show. Oswald: "When we first heard each other on the radio - that was crazy."
