Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen - When the first reports of a new virus appeared in China around the turn of the year, many thought: China? That is far away. Not So Ingo Kühn, managing director of the district clinic. At the latest when the first cases became public in Starnberg, he suspected that something might come up for him and his 400 employees. But he is also surprised by the dynamics that the whole thing has taken on. "Unfortunately there is no textbook for this."

As of Thursday, exactly one suspected case was looked after in the campus on Moosbauerweg. "The patient is accommodated in a single room to prevent the risk of infection." The clinic's employees only approach him with protective clothing, ie FFP2 mask, glasses, protective suit and a smock.

Kühn is certain that more cases will come to the clinic over the next few days. "We have the calm before the storm here," he suspects. Everything else is unclear. How many cases will there be? How difficult will the courses be, will the patients have to be inpatient or intensive care? Nobody knows the answer to that. "I can only say that we are well equipped." The clinic has postponed operations as required and has capacity. In addition, a task force meets every day to reassess the situation.

Ventilators are available in the district clinic

What benefits the district clinic is the so-called weaning center, in which patients are weaned from ventilators. Say: there are respirators. "And we also have considerable expertise," said Kühn. This could be important, the symptoms of Covid-19 include acute shortness of breath.

According to press spokesman Christopher Horn, individual Covid-19 patients receive inpatient care at the Tölz Asklepiosklinik. Here too, you are gearing up for the coming days. "We are closely monitoring the situation," said Horn.

Bad Tölz has developed a precise procedure for suspected cases that require further inpatient treatment due to the severity of the symptoms. There are "predefined areas that can be expanded if necessary." There is no risk of infection due to the separate station and the room insulation.

Horn can reassure patients and their relatives. “Meanwhile, the clinic continues to run normally. Urgent procedures that cannot be postponed will continue to be carried out. ”All other patients will be informed by phone and a new appointment will be made.

In this difficult situation, special attention is paid to the employees. "We know that it is an incredibly stressful time for you personally and your environment, and therefore, if requested, offer, among other things, that you can anonymously contact an external employee advisory service."
