Wiesbaden (AP) - Hessian finance minister Thomas Schäfer is dead. Rescue workers found his body in the morning on an ICE train line near Hochheim am Main, as the Wiesbaden public prosecutor and the police announced in the evening.
Due to the overall circumstances, investigators assume suicide. The CDU politician died at the age of 54.
"We are all shocked and can hardly believe that Thomas Schäfer died suddenly and unexpectedly," said Prime Minister Volker Bouffier (CDU) in the evening. "We all have to deal with his death now and mourn with his family. Our sincere condolences therefore go to his closest relatives first, and we wish them strength and strength for this difficult time."
