It's not too late to set up a Corona war cabinet | Israel today

The crisis should be managed by an orderly body that will formulate recommendations and alternatives, and most importantly - ensure that the right moves are made without politics, budget and ego considerations.

One of the clichés of war states that they are not criticized during the battles, but only when they are over. "Quiet, shooting," concluded this with the essence of journalist Amiram Nir, at the beginning of the First Lebanon War.

Ministry of Health: Conflicting data was found in 8 tests

One can understand the desire for unity, cohesion, and line density during a crisis. Warms the heart to love the commanders and soldiers, or in the present case: the doctors and nurses. It contributes to hugters and contributes to hugters. In this respect, times of crisis present Israel with its social greatness.

But supporting those who are at the forefront must not avoid criticizing - or at least questioning - the decision-making processes. Not for political motives (although these are not invalid in democracy), but to improve the decisions that are made, or simply put: to save lives.

State captains refer to the Corona epidemic, and rightly so, like the war. There are those who claim, especially the prime minister, that this is one of the most complicated challenges the state has known, and perhaps humanity as a whole. A global campaign that requires unprecedented multi-systemic mobilization to defeat the enemy.

It's hard to argue with the need. The medical data on the number of patients and the dead in the world (and certainly in Israel) may not support these deterministic assessments, but as long as the crisis is not behind us - the threat is alive, well, and dangerous. It is precisely because of this that it is difficult to understand the conduct of the government systems in the case. A month since the crisis began, the pile of questions has been accumulating. First, for what was: the delay in the purchase of test kits, respirators and protective equipment; The permissible permits for Purim parties, which, in the opinion of all the experts, accelerated the infection in the community; Failure to close public spaces on time; Above all - the delay in significantly increasing the number of tests to accurately measure the steps taken.

This all happened when the crisis was already knocking on our door. Now that he's here, the questions don't stop. Where is the Treasury gone, and why solutions for millions of Israelis are not already being offered that if the Corona does not kill them, the economic situation will end. Why not withhold taxes and advance payments, and how it does not save entire industries - in tourism, agriculture, industry, and especially in the independent sector - that crave something in a row.

War requires mobilization of the entire economy. The public is mobilized: the empty streets and the distance in the shops will be attested. Quite a number of entries have also been mobilized: from the Ministry of Defense and the IDF, where they have grown heads, to companies, non-profit organizations and organizations looking to fill the vacuum and provide solutions to the public.

It is precisely the government that is delayed. There are no economic solutions (although promised), and no answers either, because the information system is paralyzed. This past weekend too was accompanied by too many rumors and too much information. Endless reports and research have indicated that during the public crisis, current and available information is needed, but when the crisis came, it was left largely with question marks.

The corona is already here, and still the person leading the decision is the Ministry of Health, as if it were a medical matter only. This is a failure that requires immediate repair, precisely because the experts believe that the culmination of the crisis is still ahead of us. It is not too late to establish a war cabinet; To head a senior manager, and to put under him five key teams: health, economic, explanatory, logistical and staff to take care of the day after.

There are enough characters with name and experience who can head such an array. He will recruit the best experts in all fields and conduct an orderly staff work. This will put the bodies in proportion, challenge their tenure, formulate recommendations and alternatives to be presented to the prime minister and the government, and most importantly - make sure that the right moves are made without politics, budget, power and ego considerations.

The fact that this does not happen is ominous. Without an orderly system and down work that will lead to informed decisions - unnecessary mistakes will be made. This is the central lesson of all the investigative committees that have been here, for any matter.
