Nowhere in the world have so many people died of Covid-19 than in Italy. And their number is increasing day by day. However, more and more people are being healed.

Rome (AP) - In Italy, more than 10,000 corona patients have died since the pandemic began. Civil defense reported 889 new deaths. The total number rose to 10,023. That is the highest number in the world.

The total number of people infected with the coronavirus in Italy increased by almost 6,000 to 92,472 on Saturday. The number of people healed rose to 12,384. That is 1434 more than on Friday.

"Today we had the highest number of people healed," said Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte at a press conference in Rome that evening. "We will meet the experts earlier this week and are confident that they will bring us more good news," he added. He has now released 4.3 billion euros for community support, Conte said.

Since March 10, people in Italy have only been allowed to leave the country in exceptional cases. The restrictions were tightened again on March 20. They were initially valid until April 3. Conte said on Saturday that there was no prospect that school would resume after April 3rd. As for the suspension of non-essential economic activities, it was too early to make a statement.

Civil protection chief Angelo Borrelli thanked Germany on Saturday for accepting Italian patients. He also defended the measures his government has taken to prevent the epidemic from spreading, without which the number of victims would be much higher.

The Vatican reported two new Corona cases on Saturday. The total number of people suffering from Covid-19 among the staff of the Holy See and the citizens of the Vatican State rose to six, as spokesman Matteo Bruni said. "I can confirm that neither the Holy Father nor his closest associates are affected," he said.

Italy tightened entry requirements on Saturday. According to a communication published by the Ministry of Transport, everyone who arrives by air, sea or land must state, among other things, the exact reason for their trip, their place of residence in Italy and their telephone number. Travelers must also tell how they will get to their destination in Italy.

Even people who show no symptoms of Covid-19 disease must report to the local health authorities and undergo a 14-day self-isolation. Airlines and shipping companies are obliged to measure the body temperature of their passengers when they check in and not to let people above 37.5 degrees on board.
