Coronavirus: no, in Seine-Saint-Denis, "we do not let patients over 70 years die"

A video, which seems to have been secretly filmed at the Robert-Ballanger hospital, in Aulnay-sous-Bois, has already been viewed over 365,000 f

The video, which has been running for several days on social networks - and which we have chosen not to relay - causes anxiety and anger in thousands of Internet users. Secretly shot via the Snapchat application and posted on March 24 on Youtube, it has already been viewed more than 365,000 times. One hears a framework there make very alarmist remarks on the situation as much material as human within its establishment, vis-a-vis the rise of the epidemic of Covid-19.

According to our information, it could have been filmed in secret by a staff from the Robert-Ballanger hospital in Aulnay-sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis). "This video has been circulating for two weeks and it disseminates inappropriate and inaccurate information", scans Patrick Vétéran, CGT secretary of the hospital center.

"We are not at the stage where we have to choose who we have to save"

The sequence begins with a statement that is cold in the back: "Now the Coros, if they are over 70 years old ...", says the manager, miming a hand gesture as if we would sacrifice these patients. If the demonstration was not freezing enough, a surtitle underlines: “At 70, they let people die in intensive care to free up places. "

The management of the hospital, who viewed the document, protested: “It is not at all the policy of our hospital. We are not at the stage where we have to choose who we have to save ”. Same statement on the union side, Patrick Vétéran is formal: “We are not there yet. And we won't go that far, ”he wants to believe.

Admittedly, the resuscitation service is running full with its 18 beds. And on Saturday, three people had to be transferred to hospitals in Tours and Blois. But no other transfer was planned for this Sunday.

Hospital recognizes shortage of medical equipment

Ballanger Hospital, which belongs to the Grand Paris Nord Est hospital group, has 763 beds. 172 are reserved for patients with Covid-19. "We are welcoming more and more patients and we are managing," he says. And we are opening this Monday ten additional beds in post-resuscitation respiratory care. "

All for patients deemed "too heavy to go home. And that will allow us to free up places in intensive care, ”says management.

But like many hospitals, Aulnay must on the other hand manage a shortage of medical equipment. On the video, the frame announces: “We only have two boxes of P2 masks, the others have expired for 6 years. We await the delivery of the State… ”On this point, the observation is unfortunately still relevant. The management launched a call for donations.

On the other hand, the establishment denies being out of tests. “We have even been carrying out analyzes of our own tests since March 11. Whereas before, we sent them to Avicenne (Editor's note: to Bobigny) or Bichat (Paris, 18th century) ”. This also measures the rise in power of the virus over the past three days: "50.8% of the tests returned us positive, now we are at 60.5%", explains the hospital on Sunday. The peak could take place at the end of next week.

Sick employees can work, but on a voluntary basis

The montage published on Youtube also evokes the distress of the staff, summoned to work even in the event of an attack on the Covid-19 ... In the video, and in an always very martial tone, the team leader sounds the general mobilization: the staff is requisitioned, I don't want to stop, ”she says to her troops. "But are we warriors ?" Says a skeptical caregiver.

For sick doctors, nurses or nursing assistants, this is indeed a reality. "It is a government recommendation. They can return after 4 days off if they wish, "says the CGT. “For them it's normal to come back to reinforce the teams. They do it on a voluntary basis and if they are capable ”, adds the management, in tune with the trade unionist.

He regrets, moreover, that “this video harms caregivers and patients. It is not the best way to mobilize personnel in a pandemic. ”

Solidarity plays at full capacity at Aulnay hospital

Faced with the health emergency, elected officials and companies have mobilized in recent days for the Robert-Ballanger hospital. “We received 10,000 FFP2 masks from a company. We also need gowns, glasses, respirators, ”says management.

The mayor (PCD) of Montfermeil, Xavier Lemoine, sent him a letter to 1,500 businesses in the territory for a call for material and financial donations.

Note that the hospital group also opened a kitty on the Leetchi platform. And for donations over 1000 €, the contact is as follows: mecenat@ght-gpne.fr
