Cultivation of Al-Hasakah: No damage to crops due to heavy rains

The Directorate of Agriculture in Al-Hasakeh Governorate confirmed that yesterday, no severe damage was caused to agricultural crops due to heavy rains, torrential rains and flooding of wadis in the northeastern region of the governorate.

The Director of Agriculture, Engineer Rajab Salama, stated in a statement to a SANA reporter that the directorate is following up with the agricultural departments deployed in the aforementioned region the reality of the various crops, especially wheat and barley, where no damage was recorded in them because the waters of the torrents were pouring into the valleys and from them towards the dams and the agricultural areas were not flooded.

Engineer Salama indicated that the majority of the agricultural stability areas in Hasaka governorate exceeded the annual rainfall, which contributed to the stability of the agricultural process and the improvement of the growth of various crops, especially the strategic ones, in addition to the growth of natural pastures and green areas that provided fodder materials for livestock breeders.

It is noteworthy that the area planted with wheat and barley crops in Al-Hasakeh governorate for the current season exceeds 950 thousand hectares.

On the other hand, the Directorate of Water Resources in Hasaka indicated that the technical and storage situation in Al-Jawadia dam and Bab Al-Hadid is stable after the wave of torrential rains and floods that hit the northeastern region of the governorate.

The Director of Water Resources, Eng. Abdul-Zaraq Al-Awak, told a SANA reporter that opening the drainage gates in the aforementioned dams contributed to absorbing the torrential waves and floods that reached 500 cubic meters per second and mitigating their impact, noting that the Directorate is mobilized with all its workers to monitor the status of the dams and deal with floods and floods in the event They happen again.

Eng. Al-Awak pointed out that the majority of dams scattered in the governorate are in the state of maximum storage, and discharge gates were opened as a result of the recent heavy rains in the governorate and the torrents and floods of rivers and valleys feeding them. And that the course of the Al-Khabour River is witnessing a large rise in the water that currently reaches 60 cubic meters Second, indicating that this rise does not threaten flooding or water leaving the course of the river.

It is noteworthy that the volume of water storage in the dams of the ten governorates of Hassakeh currently stands at 726 million cubic meters, compared to 669 million in the same period last year.
