The idea is not new, because it has been practiced in large cities around the world for a long time. But now it also celebrated its premiere in Dachau: the gift fence.
Dachau - White, bulging plastic bags hang on Brunngartenstrasse, on the corner of Karlsberg, on the green railing of the bridge. Food donations are included and are intended to help needy citizens - especially in times when the corona pandemic has to keep food out.
The initiators of the gift fence were members of Corona-Help-Dachau, an association of business people from the city and district who no longer only sell their goods to the people but also by delivery service and have already found many volunteers for this. One of these helpers last asked the group whether there was already a fence in Dachau. "I said no, but I directly suggested the colorfully knitted bridge on Karlsberg," says Bernard Zeidler (right) of the "Chaoscityriders", who had collected a lot of money for needy Dachau people by participating in a donation rally last year. Last Friday, together with his friend Benjamin Markovic (left), he helped fill the first bags of the gift fence near the Dachau table.
The first donations, all perishable food, came from the two Dachaur women Christiane and Susi (picture). They proudly opened the project and hope that it will be accepted. In the future, members of Corona-Help-Dachau want to regularly check the fence.
