(CNN) - A plane bound for Tokyo crashed on Sunday during takeoff from Ninoy Aquino International Airport in the Philippine capital Manila, killing all 8 people on board, airport staff told CNN.

All passengers on board Lion Air RPC 5880 died after the plane caught fire at takeoff, according to the Manila International Airport Authority.

An American and a Canadian were on board the aircraft, according to the flight's passenger manifest. The other six were Filipinos, according to the report.

The plane was reportedly carrying medical supplies, the Philippine News Agency said, adding that the plane caught fire on the runway.
