Update from March 29, 2020, 5 p.m .: The turnout in the runoff election in Munich may be higher than in the first round of the OB election. By Sunday afternoon, around 600,000 completed letters had been returned to the District Administration Department (KVR). In addition, there are the letters that were thrown in directly at the KVR or at the citizens' offices and in the special letter boxes. According to the official result, the turnout in the poll two weeks ago was 49 percent .

The letters are counted on Sunday from 6 p.m. A final result is not expected until Monday .

Local elections in Munich: Reiter must be in the runoff - crime thriller for second place

Update at 11:00 p.m .: After counting almost all votes it is clear : Dieter Reiter misses the absolute majority in the OB election in Munich and has to run against Kristina Frank in a runoff election. The 61-year-old received 47.9 percent of the vote. CSU candidate Frank came to 21.4 percent and narrowly prevailed against Katrin Habenschaden (Greens) .

Update at 8.45 p.m .: "This is not the desired result, but a very good result," said Dieter Reiter after counting the votes in the OB election in Munich . He had 14 opposing candidates, of which the Greens and the CSU candidate each achieved a good 20 percent. This made it very difficult to get over 50 percent in the first ballot. For the runoff election on March 29, he was "absolutely confident" that he would come over 50 percent.

After counting 1222 out of 1274 areas, Reiter came in at 48 percent , CSU candidate Kristina Frank at 21.3 percent , and Greens candidate Katrin Habenschaden was in third place at 20.5 percent .
