Containment: good advice from the ex-commander of the nuclear submarine "Le Terrible"

INTERVIEW - Captain Nicolas Lambropoulos is used to long periods of confinement. He talks about his experience of professional confinement.


Captain Nicolas Lambropoulos notably ordered the nuclear missile submarine (SNLE) Le Terrible .

LE FIGARO. - The current situation of the French is not comparable to the complete confinement inside a submarine. However, there are lessons to be learned from your experience. How do you prepare for confinement?

Nicolas LAMBROPOULOS. - Containment is experienced by many. Part of the preparation consists in getting to know each other, to ensure a cohesive crew, a team spirit. As a commander, you have to know each other's strengths and weaknesses to know who to lean on and especially to be able to detect weak signals in people. In a submarine, there are one or more missions to carry out: patrol, deterrence ... It is a unifying element. Each one devotes himself to his task. We prepare for confinement by preparing our private life on land.
