Josef Oberhauser won the mayor election in Dietramszell. He was quarantined three days later. His test result: positive.

Dietramszell - fever, chills and headache: three days after he was elected mayor of Dietramszell, Josef Hauser suddenly developed symptoms that made him think of a corona infection. “The next day everything was over again,” says the 53-year-old. Nevertheless, he immediately called his family doctor in Wolfratshausen. In the practice parking lot he took a throat swab. The test result came five days later: positive.

"I have no idea where I got infected," says Hauser. He was not in any risk area and had no contact with an infected person. However, the police in Miesbach, where he works, already had a corona case. That was one of the reasons why the test was also carried out on him. Hauser himself went into quarantine at home immediately after the test, as his doctor had advised him to do.

After the positive test result last Tuesday, he received a call from the health department in Bad Tölz. "I had to tell them about my contact persons: those of category one with whom I spoke face-to-face for at least 15 minutes and category two, normal contacts," reports the current third mayor of the municipality. The numerous well-wishers for his election victory on Sunday evening were not among them. Because: According to the health authority, at least two days before the onset of symptoms, the sick are considered contagious. "No one other than my family had to go to quarantine."

Mayor Leni Gröbmaier and his colleagues in the local council, of course, still shared the test result with him. The construction committee meeting on Tuesday evening was then postponed for safety reasons. The town hall manager also preferred to voluntarily enter quarantine at home until the end of the 14-day incubation period. When the election results were announced in the conference room, she was relatively close to Hauser. After consultation with the health department, Gröbmaier's deputy Michael Häsch will take over the official business. "I only congratulated you briefly on election evening and had no other contact," he told our newspaper on request.

"It runs more smoothly than I had imagined," says Hauser from the quarantine. His three children (13, 15 and 17) were "quite relaxed" after a week. Digital school lessons and various handicrafts ensure employment: "Yesterday they braided bracelets." His 73-year-old mother-in-law, who lives in the family's house, worries him. "After several strokes, she is bedridden and in need of care," he explains. Therefore, it belongs to the risk groups in which a corona infection could be life-threatening. Hauser therefore moved into the guest room for the duration of the quarantine, uses his own bathroom and avoids contact with his wife and children. In the meantime, giving the mother-in-law in short-term care did not seem to be a good solution: "The risk of infection is at least as great as at home," he says.

The family received respiratory masks and disinfectants from the circle of friends and from their family doctor. The supply of food and other things for daily needs is also not a problem. "We are relatively well positioned from the start," says the chief detective chief. "In addition, many acquaintances have offered that they go shopping for us if necessary." So far, all family members have been doing well. According to the health department, a corona test is only carried out when they show signs of illness. Hauser very much hopes that this will not happen. Because: "Then the 14-day quarantine period starts all over again."

If everything stays as it is, isolation ends on April 1st. A month later, his term as new mayor begins. Until then, he is definitely ready for action again, he estimates. "I am very happy that the illness went so lightly with me." And then he was immune for a while, he is happy: The virus that is currently terrifying the world can then no longer do anything to him wear.
