(CNN Spanish) - The Paraguayan government announced on Monday cuts in wages and other benefits in the public service for three months as part of the emergency measures against the coronavirus.

The Minister of Finance, Benigno López, announced the following:

  • Cut wages of 10% of wages above 5 minimum wages.
  • 20% wage cut to those who earn more than 10 minimum wages.
  • The salary cap for officials and heads of binational companies may not exceed the president's salary.

According to the Minister of Finance, these cuts will save about 52 million dollars to be transferred to the emergency fund that finances health expenses.
