The high mass of world gastronomy will not take place. After the postponement of Euro 2020, the Tokyo Olympics or the Cannes Festival, it's the turn of World's 50 Best Restaurants to postpone its 2020 ceremony. Originally scheduled for June 2 in Antwerp (Belgium), it will take place finally in the summer of 2021, circumstances permitting. If the precise date still remains to be defined, the Flemish city intends to remain host of the event.
The coronavirus will therefore have been right in the ranking of the best restaurants in the world, which will not appear in 2020. And this despite the expectation and the business it generates. Instead, the organization (the British from William Reed Business Media) has announced that it will focus its energy and resources on supporting the restaurant industry and renowned chefs, through measures to be announced soon.
“Today, we are committed to the fact that, even if there will be no celebration of the 50 best restaurants in the world this year, we will act to support and defend restaurants today and in the future. We are asking the community to join us in the initiatives that will replace our planned program of events this year in Antwerp, Flanders, ”said William Drew, programming director for World's 50 Best. “Our sincere thanks go to the restaurant sector and to all those who have mobilized to support the community. From the provision of meals and delivery services to those who liaise with government officials to protect restaurants and their future, we are all with you. ”
Mauro Colagreco, from Mirazur to Menton, crowned best restaurant in the world on June 25th in Singapore will therefore remain one more year in the sky ... before joining the "Best of the Best" club, which brings together all the tables being mounted on the first step of the podium since the launch of the prize list in 2002.
