The Working Group on Historical Geretsried has a large program this year: Among other things, it is working on a new publication and an exhibition.

Geretsried - The Working Group on Historical Geretsried (AHG) has big plans for the year 2020. On the one hand, the hobby historians want to revise the panels of the path of history. Second, a new Geretsried booklet is to be published. And thirdly, the AHG has considered three actions to mark the city's anniversary.

For over four years, the AHG has been focusing on documenting the two armaments plants in Wolfratshauser Forst, on the ruins of which the city of Geretsried was created. In a series of nine booklets, the topics of financing, planning, production, working conditions, blasting and dismantling of the factories after the Second World War are highlighted.

The fourth issue appeared in 2019. "Our deserving friend Martin Walter, who unfortunately died far too early, had still largely written the booklet," reports AHG spokesman Dr. Wolfgang Pintgen. "Harald Zelfel completed the topic and edited it for printing." This year the fifth issue of the series is to be published.

Hobby historians want to publish special issues

On the occasion of the city's anniversary, the hobby historians want to publish a special edition of the “Geretsrieder Hefte” series. Author Walter Holzer devotes himself to the early history of Geretsried. The hamlet of Geretsried has been around since 1083. Gerhard Aumüller is responsible for the publication.

Geretsried: industrial exhibition in the art bunker

In addition, the AHG is planning an industrial exhibition in cooperation with the city, namely in the art bunker, the former coal bunker of Power Plant 2 of Dynamit Aktiengesellschaft (DAG) on Isardamm. As reported, the imposing armament building served as a gallery for many years. It is now owned by the Krämmel company.

The exhibition is scheduled to open on July 2nd. According to Werner Sebb, the organizer of the exhibition, it is dedicated to the memory of the years when local industrial and commercial enterprises were built between 1946 and 1970. The exhibits on display would demonstrate the versatility of Geretsried's industry more than 70 years ago. Sebb: "Although far from all of the companies at that time were exhibition objects, there are impressive insights into the product ranges and working methods from back then."

The exhibition is intended to illustrate the versatility of Geretsried's industry

Werner Sebb, the hobby historian, has been working on the exhibition since 2019

This applies to products in the textile industry as well as to the manufacture of musical instruments, the manufacture of chemical products, machine and apparatus construction, the food and luxury food industry and much more. "It offers a much larger overview than its predecessor from 1950," announces the hobby historian.

On June 24, 1950, for the first time, a performance show was held on Geretsrieder Boden to mark the foundation of the community. "It was housed in the recently cleared production hall of the Brühschwein tool factory, which was used as an electric cart charging station during the war," said Geretsrieder. After that, the former building number 547 of the DAG served for many years as the church of the parish Holy Family.

Other buildings belonging to the former DAG and DSC ammunition factories are also known to have been used differently in the course of a few years in the history of the young city. The example of the Church illustrates in a particularly impressive way "the change from places that were used to produce weapons of destruction to places of human encounter and peace".

AHG is working on a film with Geretsrieder Fotoclub

Together with the Geretsried Photo Club, the working group is also working on a film with the working title "7x Geretsried in 10 year increments". AHG spokesman Pintgen adds: "From film footage made available by citizens, important episodes from the development of Geretsried are shown in short scenes."

Salvage of original relics from the armaments era

The AHG wants to stay on the salvage of one of the few original relics from the armaments era. "A one-man bunker is partly buried in a lonely meadow section north of the Böhmwiese," says Pintgen. "We were able to find out that the rescue is possible through a specialist company from Geretsried." For the further procedure one is in discussion with the city. The amateur historian can imagine that the one-man bunker will be set up in the garden of the Geretsried City Museum. An old wooden barrack is also to be built there.

AHG is working on building its own archive

The AHG is very happy to have a new city archivist hired at the end of 2018. As reported, the hobby historians had campaigned for this. For the rest, they continue to work on building their own archive, which is to be equipped with pictures, writings, books and certificates. All documents are recorded in a finding book.

After the end of World War II, the Americans actually wanted to destroy the ammunition factories. But they changed their minds. Geretsried was born.
