The corona virus has completely caught the Medical Park clinics in Bad Wiessee. Rehabilitation patients are no longer accepted. There are 33 Covid 19 sufferers and suspected cases on the isolation ward.

Bad Wiessee– In the rehabilitation clinics Medical Park St. Hubertus and on the cherry tree hill, up to 580 patients are treated in good times. Now there are still 222. Since a test for Covid-19 was positive for the first time on March 15, the state of emergency applies.

In the meantime, an isolation station has been set up in St. Hubertus. There are currently 33 patients suffering from Covid-19 or suspected of having the virus. 20 employees also tested positive. A total of 536 people are employed there.

Last week, Karin Bergdoll, a former patient of the hospital management, had accused of taking protective measures too late. In the meantime, other affected people have reported. Among them is Romy Schuster from Eckental-Forth (Middle Franconia). She is an asthma sufferer and her husband has a heart condition. She has been in quarantine at home since March 16 and still maintains telephone contact with a former fellow patient in St. Hubertus who has tested positive. Schuster is not satisfied with the information provided by the clinic. "There was no timely, honest and informative communication," she writes.

Clinic employee speaks of misery

Hannah Höfl reports on the fate of her 74-year-old aunt, who had started rehabilitation in St. Hubertus after a pulmonary embolism. The hospital offered her aunt to return home on March 16 because of the Corona case, Höfl writes. But the 74-year-old wanted to stay. A little later she developed symptoms and now has to be treated in the Agatharied hospital.

A clinic employee who wants to remain anonymous speaks of a misery. "The situation was underestimated by the management," it says in his letter. There had been group therapy and lectures for too long. Patients had not been informed that new ones had been admitted. Now the staff is massively overwhelmed with the situation.

Management of the clinic rejects allegations

The company management rejects the allegations in a comprehensive statement. "The clinic already started in February to immediately isolate patients with cold symptoms and test them consistently for Covid-19," it says. This strategy was a pioneer. The clinic also assured that arriving patients were always informed. Some would have canceled the rehab, others would still do so.

Sophie Stadler, spokeswoman for the district office, cannot confirm the clinic's statement that she always kept the patients fully informed. According to her, the health department has a letter that patients received on departure. It states that there is a proven case of SARS-CoV 2 in the clinic. "The health department immediately asked for the letter to be corrected because it does not correspond in any way to the current situation," Stadler explains.

The letter asked patients to contact the health department in their home region. With the misinformation that there is only one case, there is a considerable risk that the patients and the local authorities misjudge the risk of infection.

Health Department sees misinformation

"Since the patients are almost exclusively at risk, misinformation can be fatal," Stadler said. Due to the high number of infections, the health department imposed an admission stop for the clinics on March 16.

So while rehab patients are no longer allowed to come, the clinics have been integrated into the care structures for corona treatment. This is supposed to relieve the acute hospitals, which concentrate on the severe cases, some of which require ventilation. The 33 patients in the isolation ward are people who had come to rehab. It can be assumed that further corona cases will be treated there in the future. To do this, new processes would have to be defined and the employees trained accordingly, the clinic outlines their strategy for the next few weeks: "This enormous steering work will continue to take us full load in the coming days."
