Édouard Philippe recognized on Thursday "very strong tensions" on certain drugs necessary for resuscitation and intensive care services, due to an "incredible" demand in the world confronted with the coronavirus pandemic.

"Around the world and at the same time, the consumption of products necessary for resuscitation, whether drugs or consumables related to resuscitation, (like) the tips of respirators, explodes in proportions never imagined," said the Prime Minister on TF1, putting the increase in this global demand at nearly 2000%. "So there is, it is true, all over the world, very strong tensions on the supply of a certain number of molecules and drugs," he added.

"A certain number of these molecules is in sufficient stock, either in hospitals, which generally have a very high consumption, or in manufacturers and we manage stocks as well as possible" and " we will be able to meet needs over time and consumption, " said the head of government. But "for others of these molecules, stocks are more limited and therefore the tensions and concerns of caregivers are real," he said.

This concerns a form of curare, cistracurium and two hypnotics, midazolam and propofol, for which hospital stocks are only "a few days" and those of manufacturers "do not give the visibility we want" , detailed Matignon.
