The United States criticized a Pakistani court decision on Thursday to overturn the death sentence of a British Islamist extremist convicted of the 2002 kidnapping and murder of American journalist Daniel Pearl in Pakistan.

" The commutation of the sentence for the murder of Daniel Pearl is an affront to the victims of terrorism around the world, " said Alice Wells, the South Asia official for US diplomacy.
However, she welcomed the fact that Pakistani prosecutors could appeal against the decision to commute the death sentence imposed on this British extremist who has been sentenced to 7 years in prison.
