The construction measures at the central station now also have consequences for the tram lines that run on the forecourt. These will be redirected in the coming months.
- The conversion of Munich Central Station * is in full swing.
- The tram connections are also affected by the measures.
- Among other things, an additional track is created.
Munich - Demolition work on the station building has been going on for a long time - now the redesign of the tram in front of the main train station * is starting. That means: Now the forecourt on the northern station area becomes a major construction site.
Reconstruction measures at the main train station: Third track for the tram is coming
In order to create more space for the tram, Stadtwerke (SWM) will add a third track to the double-track stop from next Monday. This should make the operational flow more fluid in the future and increase the performance for the tram stop at this junction.
For example, a track connection is made from Arnulfstraße to Prielmayerstraße so that trains coming from Romanplatz can also reach Stachus via Prielmayerstraße. A total of 3100 meters of rails, 14 switches and eleven crossings will be renewed. Line 20 also has its own stop at Bahnhofsplatz . The work takes around two years.
Conversion measures at the main train station: Trams will no longer operate in the forecourt until mid-November
Specifically, the following applies: From Monday to mid-November there is no tram at the station forecourt , then there is a construction break over the winter, next year there will again be significant restrictions for lines 16, 17 and 18 from March to May.
Drivers also have to adjust: the Bahnhofsplatz is blocked from Schützenstraße in a northerly direction. Pedestrians and cyclists can continue to cross the square (with impairments).
The subway station at the main station is also undergoing a major renovation - the schedule is known. The central station is also prepared for the corona crisis * - the federal police ensure security.
