The latest assessment of the coronavirus epidemic has just been announced, and unfortunately, it is very heavy. 588 people have died from Covid-19 in France in the past 24 hours, 1,416 people have died since the start of the epidemic in nursing homes, more than 6,500 victims have been reported in France since March 1.

But Jérome Salomon, Director General of Health (DGS), did not have only bad news to announce during his daily press briefing. By giving the number of new patients received in intensive care, 263 additional people this Friday, the DGS outlines a slowdown of the epidemic in France. "The permanent need to find new places (in intensive care) is increasing less quickly," he noted.
“Highest in history” total
This number has been decreasing since Monday March 30. The peak of new entries in these specific hospital departments, where severe cases receive heavy care, is then reached with 475 patients. They are 458 Tuesday, 452 Wednesday, then 382 new patients yesterday Thursday. Admittedly, the total of hospitalized patients in “shea”, 6662 people, is the highest “in the history of French medicine”. But the observation of its stabilization will be one of the signs of a decline in the spread of the virus in France.
