Dorfen - Holy Week is the last week of Lent or Passion in the Christian church year and therefore the week before Easter. It starts this Sunday, April 5th. No services can be celebrated due to the exit restrictions. Pastor Janusz Gadek and the Dorfen pastoral team with Pastor Konrad Mühlbauer, Spiritual Counseling Johann Wieser and Pastoral Advisor Renate Emehrer have therefore written an Easter letter to the faithful.

"Dear sisters and brothers, dear Dorfen citizens, when all public services were canceled by April 3, we hoped that before Holy Week we could prepare a church gazette, in which we would invite everyone to join us for Easter.

But the reality is very different. In the newspapers, in which there were always different church appointments, there is nothing. Our church gazette does not appear for the time being either. Firstly, because there are no public services in Holy Week in our two parish churches (Dorfen and Oberdorfen). On the other hand, nobody should be endangered by the distribution of our church gazette. Only our website and this time the newspapers are available to us.

The whole of Holy Week and especially the three Easter days of suffering, death and the resurrection of the Lord (Triduum Paschale) form the central point of the church year. On these days we celebrate our redemption. God's son out of love for us became man, suffered for us, died and rose on the third day. These are key events in our faith.

Even if we are not allowed to celebrate Holy and Easter week together in our churches, we remain connected as a community. It would also be a good opportunity to rediscover that we, as the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising, are a local church; that according to the teaching of the church, all services are always celebrated in connection with the local bishop.

Our Archbishop Cardinal Reinhard Marx will celebrate Holy Week services for us in Munich Cathedral: on Palm Sunday at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at 5 p.m. the Chrisam fair; on Holy Thursday at 7 p.m. the Mass of the Last Supper; on Good Friday at 3:00 p.m. the celebration of Christ's suffering and death; on Saturday at 9 p.m. the Easter night and on Sunday at 10 a.m. the Easter service.

These services will not be open to the public, but our archbishop invites you to join the party by means of a live broadcast on the Internet at www.erzbistum-muenchen.de/stream. I will also celebrate Holy Week services in a small group. Let us be connected with the Cardinal, the Archdiocese and the whole Church in prayer!

Every year in Holy Week we think of the Christians who live in the Holy Land. Take a look at our website www.erzbistum-muenchen.de/pfarrei/pv-dorfen how we can help you now. An Italian recently said: "We have to separate now to be able to hug each other more warmly later."

If we stay at home, we follow all protective measures of the responsible authorities, but we remain connected in prayer. Let us pray for all who are sick, for the people in mourning, for the deceased.

Our prayers are now especially for those in the midst of the struggle for the health and life of our fellow citizens. We often pray to God's mother Mary in the words of our Dorfener Marien prayer.

And finally, to reflect, I want to give you the words of Pope Francis that he said on Friday, March 27th in St. Peter's Square in Rome:

"Why are you so scared? Don't you have faith yet?" Dear brothers and sisters, from this place, which tells of the rock-solid faith of Petri, I would like to entrust all of you to the Lord tonight and ask Our Lady for your intercession, which is the salvation of the people of God and the sea stars on a stormy sea. From these colonnades that embrace Rome and the world, God's blessing descends on you like a comforting embrace.

Lord bless the world, give health to bodies and hearts. You want us not to be afraid; but our belief is weak and we are afraid. But you, Lord, don't leave us to the storms. Say to us again: "Do not be afraid" (Mt 28,5). And together with Peter we "throw all our care at you, because you take care of us" (cf. 1 Petr5,7).

God's blessing!"
