Dear subscribers,
True courage is "a form of professional conscience" (Pierre Hamp). This beautiful formula, cited by the historian Marc Bloch in L'étrange Défaite , has seen its relevance verified these days in France. Workers, farmers, truckers, bakers and butchers, supermarket workers and so many others meet the basic needs of the population. City dwellers and workers in the tertiary sector open their eyes to the immense work that is being done every day around them. Used to being served, they often forgot it. May, once the ordeal has been overcome, the French keep in mind how much they depend on each other.
