The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor is working in cooperation with a number of NGOs in Damascus to prepare and implement a number of measures to tackle the Coronavirus, by providing a quarantine center and organizing community-based initiatives to support families in need and persons with disabilities.

According to the Director of Social Affairs and Labor in Damascus, Mahmoud Al-Damrani, it is currently being prepared to prepare a quarantine center in one of the building blocks of the Vocational Rehabilitation Institute for Persons with Disabilities located in the Barzeh region, which includes thirty beds to receive cases suspected of being infected with the Corona virus, in conjunction with the rehabilitation of a cadre of volunteers and specialized doctors To work within.

On the initiatives launched by the voluntary societies and groups in Damascus in cooperation with the Ministry, Al-Damrani explained in a statement to the SANA delegate that it supports women heads of household, orphans, needy families, persons with disabilities and the elderly.

Al-Damrani said that the initiatives also focused on spreading awareness about the importance of adhering to the measures and decisions taken to tackle the virus by staying at home and moving away from gatherings and maintaining a safe distance between people, sterilization, hygiene, wearing masks and medical gloves, as well as the work of volunteers for NGOs to deliver sterilization materials and food baskets to registered families .

Among the implemented initiatives, Al-Damrani mentioned the “Protect You Are ... Protect Your Country” initiative that was launched by the volunteer team of the Jasmine Veins Association and includes the distribution and delivery of food and sterilizing and cleaning supplies to the homes of beneficiary families, the “We Work for You Stay Home” initiative organized by the Al-Ghada Charitable Association and similar initiatives of the Amal Association Tomorrow ““ Yasmine Al-Sham ”and others, where they distribute a number of food and health baskets to beneficiary families in stages, in addition to financial subsidies in proportion to the living conditions of families and the number of their members.

In the same context, the Ministry of Social Affairs worked, according to Al-Damrani, to issue decisions, circulars and instructions related to precautionary measures to tackle the virus and distribute it to its directorates in the governorates, taking into account the continuation of some of the services provided by those directorates, especially the disbursement of financial aid to the families of people with cerebral palsy and to ensure the commitment of employers in the private sector During the current circumstances, the monthly wage is paid to their workers subject to the provisions of Labor Law No. 17 of 2010.

Al-Damrani emphasized that the Directorate continues its field visits to NGOs, nursing homes and institutes affiliated with them to follow up sterilization operations and the obligation not to conduct any activities or courses and only provide health and awareness services.

It is noteworthy that the number of civil societies operating in Damascus reached 526, whose services vary between relief, health, education and development.
