Bnei Brak Auction House Offers Sale for a Blind Haggadah Printed in the US in the 1950s • They claim that the National Library did not recognize the Haggadah in question
The Brand Auction House in Bnei Brak is offering a Braille Written Auction for sale, which people with vision impairments can use, which may be the first of its kind in history. This is a Haggadah called "Union Haggadah", probably a Haggadah translated by Emmanuel Nabout, and printed in the US in 1957. The Haggadah was given after it was created for Sydney Weinberg.
According to the salesperson, the Haggadah was not recognized in the National Library, and it is a single copy in the world of that Haggadah. About three years ago, the National Library noted that it has seven Haggadahs in Braille, six of them printed in Israel and one printed in the United States a few decades ago.
"The first Braille written Haggadah appears to have been printed in the United States in the early 1950s," they confirmed at the National Library. In 2017, the National Library purchased a Braille written in the United States, and is probably one of the first such Haggadahs ever printed.
The Brand House is offering the Haggadah at a $ 500 opening price, and will be sold on May 3 at 7pm at 21 Ben-Barak Avraham Ben David Street. Of course, there may be changes in the date if the corona epidemic and severe restrictions continue.
