Mainland regulations stipulate that starting April 10, cross-border truck drivers will conduct nucleic acid testing at a qualified medical institution or Shenzhen port at their own expense. They must hold a negative nucleic acid test result within 7 days before crossing the border.

Lu Songxiong, a member of the Federation of Trade Unions, Chen Dishou, chairman of the Container Transport Industry Workers Union, and Su Baican, chairman of the Harbour Transport Federation, met with Deputy Secretary Su Weiwen of the Transport and Housing Bureau at noon today, hoping that the government will pay for health tests for drivers. It is known that the test cost of drivers at the Shenzhen port is about 200 to 300 yuan, and the price for a quick test in the Hong Kong private market ranges from about 700 to more than 1,000 Hong Kong dollars.

Lu Songxiong pointed out that although some medical institutions in the Mainland can provide tests for less than RMB 300, drivers must go to the mainland hospital on their own to increase the risk of infection in disguise. He said that the problem that money can solve should not be the problem. The government should bear the relevant costs when the driver's income decreases. The best way is to directly pay the Shenzhen customs inspection fee by the Hong Kong government.

In addition, the industry also hopes that the government can return the 7-day validity period of the nucleic acid test certificate to 14 days, and provide different methods of testing, such as rapid blood test, to avoid the discomfort caused by frequent deep-throat testing by drivers.

Chen Di appealed to the industry that because the virus testing process takes time, people in the industry should obtain the test results at least one day before the start of the work.
