Coronavirus pandemic has killed more than 80,000 people worldwide

The pandemic of the new coronavirus has killed at least 80,142 people worldwide since its appearance in December in China, according to a report established by AFP from official sources Tuesday at 9 p.m. More than 1,397,180 cases of infection have been officially diagnosed in 192 countries and territories since the start of the epidemic.

This number of diagnosed cases, however, only reflects a fraction of the actual number of infections, with a large number of countries only testing cases requiring hospital treatment. Among these cases, at least 257,100 are now considered cured.

Since the count carried out the day before at 9 p.m., 6,959 new deaths and 86,374 new cases have been recorded worldwide.

The countries with the most new deaths in 24 hours are the United States with 1,632 new deaths, France (1,417, including the new figures provided for deaths in institutions for dependent elderly people, Ehpad) and the United Kingdom. Uni (786).

Italy, which recorded its first death linked to the coronavirus at the end of February, has 17,127 deaths for 135,586 cases. 604 deaths and 3,039 new cases were announced there Tuesday. 24,392 people are considered cured by the Italian authorities.

After Italy, the most affected countries are Spain with 13,798 deaths for 140,510 cases, the United States with 12,021 deaths (383,256 cases), France with 10,328 deaths (109,069 cases), and the United Kingdom with 6,159 dead (55,242 cases).

China (without the territories of Hong Kong and Macao), where the epidemic began at the end of December, counted in total 81,740 cases (32 new between Monday and Tuesday), including 3,331 deaths, and 77,167 recoveries. No new deaths were announced Tuesday, for the first time since January.

In number of cases, the United States is the most affected country, with 383,256 officially registered infections, including 12,021 deaths and 20,191 cured.

Since Monday at 9 p.m., Malawi, Madagascar and Benin have announced the first deaths linked to the virus on their soil. Sao Tome and Principe have announced the diagnosis of the first cases.

Europe totaled Tuesday at 9 p.m. 57,351 deaths for 735,781 cases, the United States and Canada 12,419 deaths (401,067 cases), Asia 4,332 deaths (123,742 cases), the Middle East 4,091 deaths (83,033 cases), l 'Latin America and the Caribbean 1,373 deaths (36,317 cases), Africa 522 deaths (10,247 cases), and Oceania 54 deaths (6,997 cases).
