The Court of the National Court of Justice of Ecuador issued a judgment in the case of “bribes 2012-2016” in which an alleged bribery plot linked to the Odebrecht company is being investigated. The court sentenced former President of Ecuador Rafael Correa, and former Vice President Jorge Glas and 18 other former officials of his government. The sentence for Correa and Glas is 8 years in prison for the crime of bribery. Correa has rejected the accusations and his lawyer, Fausto Jarrín, told CNN in January this year that the judicial process "suffers from disorder and lack of concrete evidence" against the former president. After learning of the ruling, Correa said on his Twitter account that “we will surely win internationally, because everything is bullshit, but it takes years. It depends on your vote that this nightmare ends. " Jorge Glas has been serving a 6-year prison sentence since 2017 for the crime of illicit association within the Odebrecht plot. Glas has defended his innocence and on several occasions has warned "that everything be investigated and that justice be applied as it should be."
