How Saoirse Kennedy Hill died (August 2019) 2:06 is still unknown.

(CNN) - The body of Maeve Kennedy Townsend McKean has been found by divers, police said.

Members of a diving and rescue team found the body under 7.6 meters of water, about 4,000 meters from her mother's residence, around 5:31 pm Monday, the Maryland Natural Resources Police said in a statement.

McKean, 41, and her 8-year-old son, Gideon, were last seen on Thursday night. Police will continue to search for the son on Tuesday, police said.

The family was quarantined at their mother's home in Chesapeake Bay, when Maeve and Gideon were playing kickball, and one of them kicked the ball in the water, according to McKean's husband David McKean.

"They got into a canoe, with the intention of retrieving the ball, and somehow they were pushed by the wind or the tide into the open bay," he wrote in a heartbreaking Facebook post.

The canoe "appeared to be taken by strong winds," police said last week. The couple were also battling heavy seas, and conditions were such that "they were unable to return to shore."

The overturned canoe was found around 7 p.m. that night, police said.

A search for McKean and his son was suspended 26 hours after his disappearance, according to the Coast Guard.

McKean was the granddaughter of former Attorney General and US Senator Robert F. Kennedy.
