The Peitinger farmers market is an institution in the market town. Accordingly, Peitinger should be pleased that they don't have to do without the popular shopping for regional products even in the Corona crisis. On Maundy Thursday, the farmers' market opens its doors as planned - with a few changes.

Peiting - restaurants closed, shops closed, events canceled: the consequences of the corona crisis have long since become part of everyday life. This is good news: "The farmers market on Maundy Thursday can take place as planned," says Herwig Skalitza, who, together with Pankratia Holl, organizes the monthly sales offer in the heart of Peiting.

Farmers' markets and weekly markets are on the government's positive list, so they can also open in times of crisis to ensure basic supplies for the population. "Of course I'm really happy about that," says Skalitza, who recently was no longer sure how things would go for the Peitingen farmers' market.

The co-organizer is pleased that the fact that it can now take place as planned also gives people back a bit of normalcy.

However, special rules also apply to the Peitinger farmers' market in times of emergency. The most obvious change concerns the arrangement of the market stalls. "They are usually as close together as possible and on both sides to ensure that the market goes right," says Skalitza. But that would be counterproductive. After all, customers should keep the greatest possible distance from one another in order to minimize the risk of infection with the corona virus. That is why the market stalls start this time from the corner of Obere Straße in the parking lots of the Keppeler inn and then only extend along the church side. This creates space so that people can keep enough distance from the person in front while waiting in line at the individual stands, says Skalitza.

So that everyone also adheres to the prescribed distance of two meters, the organizer wants to inform customers of the specification via loudspeaker system. He announces that the announcement technology will not only be used for admonitions, but also to “thank you for being loyal to us in times of crisis”.

The organizer cannot yet say exactly how many stand operators will come. "We have a few who belong to the risk group because of their age." However, he assumes that around two thirds of the providers will also participate this time. Especially since the Maundy Thursday market is traditionally well attended. "The offer will be varied again," promises Skalitza. "In particular there is fresh asparagus and of course potatoes as well as the well-known products."
