In the "Railway Development Strategy 2014" in 2014, seven railway solutions were proposed, one of which was the extension of the Tung Chung Line. The Transport and Housing Bureau submitted a document to the Legislative Council that the MTR Tung Chung Line extension will start construction in 2023, and the two new stations under the project, Tung Chung West Station and Tung Chung East Station, will be completed in 2029. The estimated construction cost is about 18.7 billion yuan.
