On the practical side, then, the government must be recognized for its declared concern for the protection of public freedoms. The use of the digital application will not be imposed; the data will be scrupulously protected from other commercial, political or security use; the tool, we are promised, will disappear from its beautiful death once we are out of this nightmare. One would have to be dangerously paranoid to think that the public authorities would take advantage of a pandemic to monitor citizens.
