Justice Minister Amir Ohana promotes a 60-day postponement of paying fines and court costs in favor of the state and local authorities, with the addition of all arrears being canceled.
On Wednesday, Justice Minister Amir Ohana issued a public comment memorandum on postponement of penalty payment deadlines, seeking 60 days to postpone the payment of fines and court costs to the state and the local authorities.
Minister Ohana is advancing the move, in coordination with the law enforcement and collection agencies, the Treasury and the Interior Ministry, with the aim of alleviating large parts of Israeli households and businesses that are having difficulty repaying their debt and because of the economic uncertainty they face due to the Corona crisis.
The legal memorandum proposes that it be applied to any fine whose due date applies between March 10 and 45 days from the date the law is published in the records. Furthermore, it is proposed in the memorandum of law to repeal arrears of fines that have been added to fines and whose payment date has already passed.
