Coronavirus-related deaths in the United States surpassed 14,600 on Wednesday, according to a Reuters count based on data from local authorities, the second highest total in the world after that recorded in Italy, which reported 17,669 dead.

A record number of daily deaths were reported Tuesday in the United States, with more than 1,900 fatal cases of the coronavirus across the country. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention said earlier Wednesday the number of cases of contamination in the United States was close to 400,000.
