(CNN Spanish) - The interim president of Bolivia Jeanine Áñez led the inauguration ceremony of the pulmonologist surgeon Marcelo Navarro, the new Minister of Health, to replace Dr. Aníbal Cruz.
Áñez said that Navarro inherited a very big challenge at a decisive moment, in reference to the government's efforts to stop the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. The president was convinced that the new minister, along with the rest of the doctors and scientists who work for the government, will fulfill the government's priority of taking care of the health of Bolivian families.

He also regretted the resignation of Cruz, who is leaving office for personal reasons, and thanked him for his dedication and effort. According to the president, Dr. Cruz "has sown the ground" for the country to face the fight against the virus.
Marcelo Navarro, 61, studied at the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés de La Paz and later in France studied in the area of pulmonology and thoracic surgery.
