It is the first Parisian establishment to have undergone a general screening since the beginning of the week. And for good reason, at the "Jardin des Plantes" nursing home in the 5th arrondissement, the epidemic of coronavirus is wreaking havoc. 21 residents have died while 112 are living in this establishment managed by the City of Paris.
Residents and staff being screened
All the staff and the elderly living on site were therefore screened. A mobile team delegated by the Paris city hall went to the site to take samples. The first results could be known this Thursday at the end of the day. All the other Parisian nursing homes (public and private) will also be massively screened in the next 15 days, as announced by the Paris city hall earlier this week.
Almost 30% of the workforce absent
As of last Friday, the Regional Health Agency (ARS) was dispatched to rue Poliveau (Ve) to analyze the situation and support the team at the Ehpad Jardin des Plantes. The situation is all the more difficult since there is a shortage of staff on site. Nearly 30% of the workforce, or around thirty people, are missing for various reasons: sick leave, childcare problems, etc.
"We do have staff who came in to reinforce them, whether they are people who usually work in PMI (maternal and child protection) or in school health services," explains Anne Souyris, assistant (EELV) to the mayor. of Paris in charge of Health.
But the work in Ehpad is particular and in times of crisis it is even more difficult. The mayor of Paris therefore counts on the health reserve mobilized by the Regional Health Agency (400 health professionals mobilized in exceptional health situations) to come and assist the staff of the social action center of the City of Paris (CASVP). The town hall also plans to turn to neighboring departments to find reinforcements.
