Covid-19 strengthens states. Leaders everywhere lead, people obey. In France, confinement is respected, except in cities in rupture. A Jacobin euphoria prophesies the rebirth of republican centralism. But those nostalgic for statism would do better to assess the extent of public powerlessness: it is at the heart of the debacle of the national health system, presented by bureaucratic propaganda as unsurpassable.

The France of standards, regulations, circulars is a ball hanging from the ankles of the government. He has shown himself, through his amateurism, unable to envisage the worst.
