Another failure in Afghanistan, a country bruised by forty years of war, where a historic agreement signed in Doha last month between Washington and the Taliban, supposed to end the longest armed conflict in the history of the United States, could fly in shards.

The exchange of prisoners between the Afghan government and the Taliban, provided for in the Doha agreement and to which Kabul had to comply, is not progressing as hoped. A Taliban delegation went to the Afghan capital ... But, after a week of dissension, the Taliban abruptly left the meetings on Tuesday. Two days earlier, they had already threatened to cancel the agreement after American strikes against their positions. This aborted attempt to exchange prisoners is another blow to Washington, more eager than ever to put an end to a costly and unpopular war, which national emergencies are relegating to the bottom of the political agenda.
