2020-04-10T08:31:10.531Z

The date, which has not yet been formalized, was announced during a meeting with Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.

The Italian confinement was planned until April 13, it will finally continue on May 3. This decision, still not official but which should be adopted in the very short term, was revealed by the Italian media. It was announced Thursday afternoon during a meeting between several members of the government, including Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, and representatives of various unions, both workers and employers.

"Stop until May 3, then we'll go out," writes the daily La Stampa for the Fiat group. "Italy closed until May 3" on the front page of the Corriere della Sera, main draw of the peninsula.

"The date to mark in red on the agenda of the Italians is May 4: that day, if all goes well, the embrace forcing millions of people to stay at home could be relaxed," writes Corriere. "But the elderly and those at higher risk will have to be protected longer," the newspaper warns.

Decrease in number of intensive care patients

According to the latest official report published Thursday evening, the coronavirus killed 18,219 people in Italy (+ 610 in 24 hours), for a total of 143,626 cases (+4,204). But for the fifth day in a row, the number of intensive care patients decreased (3,605, -88), and that of those hospitalized with symptoms also decreased (28,399, -6).

According to the media, a few rare exceptions to the cessation of activities deemed non-essential, also in effect until April 13, will also be granted from this date: bookstores and stationery stores, possibly newborn clothing stores , and some companies producing agricultural machinery, according to Corriere.

The last to reopen, on a date yet unknown, should be bars, restaurants, schools, dentists or gyms, ensures for its part the left-wing daily La Repubblica.

In France, the confinement planned until April 15 will also be extended. Emmanuel Macron must specify the new dates Monday evening in an address.
