Obtaining additional ventilators and protective clothing is currently difficult. Nevertheless, the managers of the two clinics in the district are confident that they can cope with the crisis.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen - In anticipation of the culmination of the corona pandemic, the clinics in Germany are preparing to admit significantly more corona patients than before. Which is easier said than done. The market for additional ventilators has been swept almost empty. Protective clothing and masks are becoming scarce. Those responsible in the two hospitals in the district, the district clinic in Wolfratshausen and the Asklepios city clinic in Bad Tölz, however, radiate optimism. They think their houses are well positioned to fight the virus.

"I think we are equipped," says Ingo Kühn, managing director of the district clinic. Like other hospitals, capacities for treating corona patients have been released in Wolfratshausen according to the guidelines of the state government. "As a result, our hospital is relatively empty."

At the moment, his house is still “well stocked” with protective clothing and equipment, says Kühn, and when asked specifically, “It always depends on the number of patients we receive, of course, but our supply is sufficient for 14 days without replenishment.” Stand Four corona patients are currently being treated in the district clinic on Tuesday afternoon, none of which require ventilation, according to Kühn. There are nine suspected cases.

There are regularly 14 ventilation places on Moosbauerweg. Kühn plans to increase the number of ventilators. "Another six are ordered, but their delivery is still pending." In the best case, 20 intensive care beds would be available for Covid-19 patients in Wolfratshausen.

As for the procurement of new equipment, "as a small district clinic, we will of course have difficulties on the world market," says Kühn. However, he hopes "that all hospitals, including ours, will be well supplied with protective equipment via the civil protection, the Bavarian state government and / or the federal government, and that the domestic production of respiratory masks and other things will also start up".

According to its spokesman Christopher Horn, the Tölz City Clinic covers its need for protective clothing "via the central purchasing department of the Asklepios Group". He is currently exhausting all possibilities “to procure supplies on the world market as well as from deliveries of civil protection. The replenishment takes place regularly. "

Seven Covid-19 patients are currently being treated in hospital at the city clinic. Four of them would be ventilated, the spokesman said. In addition, as of Wednesday afternoon, there are four other suspected cases to be treated. The clinic regularly has ten ventilation options in the intensive care unit. "In preparation for a possible increase in the number of cases, we have so far been able to expand it to 22 beds," says Horn. "Special thanks go to our dedicated employees, who are tackling these extraordinary challenges together for us." One is well prepared for a possible increase in corona patients. "The clinic is in close coordination with the disaster management management group and thus also with the other clinics in the region."

According to Horn, with the separate ward and the room insulation there is “no increased risk of infection for other patients”. With all sensible measures against corona infection, one should not lose sight of other serious diseases such as heart attacks, cardiac arrhythmias and strokes. These are life-threatening diseases that require immediate hospital treatment. Horn: “Unfortunately, we are currently seeing that, despite an acute illness, some patients do not come to the clinic or very late and risk serious consequences. The patients and their relatives can rest assured that urgent, non-deferrable interventions will continue to be carried out. ”
