Corona virus on Lake Tegernsee: Forest festivals before the Aus - Lake festivals canceled

A summer without forest and lake festivals - actually unthinkable at Tegernsee. But Corona brings all major events to their knees by the end of August. So the forest festival season will fall flat.

A summer without forest and lake festivals - actually unthinkable at Tegernsee. But Corona brings all major events to their knees by the end of August. So the forest festival season will fall flat.

  • They are an institution on Lake Tegernsee and an important source of income for the clubs
  • But the forest festivals in the Tegernsee valley are on the verge of ending due to the coronavirus crisis.
  • The lake festivals in Rottach-Egern, Tegernsee and Bad Wiessee will also be canceled.

Tegernsee Valley - The forest festival of FC Real Kreuth at Leonhardstoanahof in mid-June would traditionally have heralded the season of forest and lake festivals on Lake Tegernsee. Would have. Because with the latest decision of the federal and state governments, it should be clear: Events like this - although no exact size has yet been mentioned - are not allowed to take place this summer because of Corona.

"We had already expected it - unfortunately God," said Max Breunig, chairman of FC Real Kreuth. The club can usually cater for more than 4,000 visitors in good conditions at its forest festival - Breunig regrets that it is now likely to fall victim to the virus: "Actually, this is our only source of income." At the same time, the chairman understood the measure: The Health comes first.

Forest festival cancellation: For clubs on Lake Tegernsee, an important source of income is lost

Martin Strillinger, chairman of the Hirschbergler traditional costume association, sees it the same way, who would have had his turn on 28 June with his forest festival. "We were hoping that we could do it - but now it is," says the Trachtler boss. Here, too, important income for youth work is lost. "It hurts us already," says Strillinger. He now hopes that at least the club's annual theater performances can take place. They would only be scheduled for December. "Hopefully this will work out," says Strillinger, whose traditional costume - like all sports clubs - has currently stalled.

In addition to the forest, the three popular lake festivals , centrally organized by Tegernseer Tal Tourismus GmbH (TTT), must also believe in it. That's what TTT managing director Christian Kausch firmly believes. "There is a clear statement about the cancellation of major events - the lake and forest festivals are certainly included."

Kausch is happy that the decision on the topic has already been made - at a "reasonable time" - at least. "In this way, we at least avoided that unnecessary costs for advertising or organization were produced," says Kausch.

Tourism chief in Tegernsee: "Watching forest festivals online is no substitute"

Since the tourism industry is already heavily shaken anyway, the TTT boss of course regrets the loss of such strong draft horses. "The forest festivals are also relevant for overnight stays," says Kausch. "This will surely leave us with guests." In addition, the lake and forest festivals at Tegernsee have a long tradition and are therefore simply part of the lifestyle of the people here. It is difficult to offer an alternative for these events, which are also very popular with guests, says Kausch. "Watching forest festivals online is no substitute."

The popular Rosstag in Rottach-Egern also falls just under the current regulation. After the festival meadow in Enterrottach was no longer allowed to be used, the community had made great efforts to save the event for this year. The site at the Carriage Museum was to serve as an alternative location; the date was set for August 30th.

That is no longer valid, as Rottach's second mayor Josef Lang confirmed on Thursday. The Rosstag would have been used this year to gain experience with the new concept, he says. "The planning is there - now we have even more time to think about it." Lang is confident that there will be another Rosstag in Rottach-Egern in 2021. And hopefully also forest and sea festivals.
