Nicaragua: Second Anniversary of Anti-Government Protests 3:28
(CNN Spanish) - In Nicaragua, public school students returned to classrooms this April 20, after the Easter holidays, many of them without protection such as masks or gloves, amid the risk of getting covid -19. According to the World Health Organization, 9 infected and 2 dead are reported in the country.
While some teachers from schools in Managua, consulted by CNN, affirm that preventive measures will be taken to avoid covid-19 infections, some parents who preferred not to identify themselves for fear of reprisals with their children, were concerned, because in the Schools sometimes do not have clean water and this can prevent frequent hand washing recommended by health agencies.

The universities attached to the National Council of Universities, CNU, also resume their classes this April 20. As stated in a statement signed on April 17: "We call on all students from different CNU universities to reintegrate into the normal activities of our study houses or as established by each university in its academic calendar," the statement said.
On March 23, 200 dental students from UNAN Managua suspended their professional practices in health centers due to the risk of contagion, as they did not have any means of protection.
The non-application of social distancing, the lack of transparency in information, the impossibility of tracking cases, and the paucity of tests to detect covid-19, constitute a concern for the authorities of the Pan American Health Organization, the high United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights and the IACHR.
Nicaragua is the only country in the region that did not suspend classes at colleges and universities as a measure to contain the pandemic, according to information from the Central American Integration System.
