The death toll from the shooting on Saturday and Sunday in eastern Canada increased from 18 to 23 victims, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP, federal police) announced on Tuesday.

"We believe there are 23 victims, including a 17-year-old girl," said police, who said they found several bodies in the rubble of houses burnt down by the killer. The man was shot and killed by police after more than 12 hours of murder in the province of Nova Scotia. It is the worst massacre Canada has ever seen in its history.
