Peiting continues to fight against car junkyard

All junk? Or waste? That is a matter of definition. One thing is certain: once again, deregistered old cars have occupied the Peitingen municipal council on a plot of land next to the Peiting allotment system. However, there is no solution in sight.

All junk? Or waste? That is a matter of definition. One thing is certain: once again, deregistered old cars have occupied the Peitingen municipal council on a plot of land next to the Peiting allotment system. However, there is no solution in sight.

Peiting - Anyone who knows local councilor Herbert Salzmann knows that he won't let up easily. The owner of the old cars, about whom little is known so far, can adjust to this. A student from Munich has officially leased the property on which the old boxes are located. Who the cars actually belong to is unclear. The student, so Salzmann suspects, is probably a straw man. The thing is dubious.

You get angry in the community. Shaking your head that something like this is possible at all. Simply rent a property in the pampas and turn it into a junkyard? Apparently it's not that difficult.

Letter from the district office shakes his head

At least one might believe a letter that arrived in the town hall a week after the penultimate meeting. The District Office announced with regard to the vehicles on the private property: “We have already carried out a site inspection. We will therefore inform the owner in a letter that when the cars are stored on his property it must be ensured that no environmentally harmful liquids can escape or that these are properly collected. ”

What? That's enough? Everyone can park their scrap in the pampas. Maybe place a bowl to collect the waste oil underneath. And done? Unbelieving shaking of heads not only with head office manager Stefan Kort.

With Herbert Salzmann, of course, who had got the ball rolling. When asked by our newspaper, he explains again exactly where the problem lies: "The authorities cannot simply tow such cars." Because officially they are considered waste.

In fact, Peiting managed to have one of these garbage cars removed - but that was on public property. The district office had stuck a red sticker on it and asked for disposal until December 31, 2019. In March the deregistered box was still in the same place.

Herbert Salzmann documented the whole thing, the community passed the whole thing on to the district office - which then apparently reacted. The car came away - a quarter of a year after the deadline.

"These cars were spread all over Peiting," says Rat Salzmann. Now they are just stored on the property. Salzmann hopes that something can be changed. Hope arises after a find on the Internet. A notice from the Seeon community. The apparently struggles with similar problems. And publicly points out: "Parked vehicles that are no longer used as a means of transportation according to their original purpose are waste and therefore end-of-life vehicles."

This “waste” should not simply be stored on the property, but must be recycled. Furthermore, the keeper is obliged to hand over the vehicle to be disposed of to a recognized acceptance point, a recognized return point or a recognized dismantling company for environmentally compatible disposal. Further: "We would also like to point out that parked vehicles also pose a danger to the environment if, for example, oil or coolant leaks from the vehicle." Environmental offenders are still at risk of criminal prosecution.

Is building law the key?

In fact, managing director Stefan Kort does not really want to believe that you can pack the scrap owner over this rail. For the head office manager, building law is more of a focus here - not only in order to be able to eliminate this unofficial scrap yard. Also to show that in Peiting not everyone is allowed to park their scrap somewhere.
