A four-day confinement began Thursday in 31 Turkish cities, including Ankara and Istanbul. This attempt to slow the epidemic will last until midnight Sunday.

The government has already taken a series of measures against the pandemic, including the closure of schools and universities, the banning of rallies and the closure of many public spaces and shops including restaurants.

The Turkish Medical Association, which represents 80% of the country's doctors, said on Wednesday that nearly 3,500 healthcare workers had been infected, 24 of whom died.
