Ricardo Antonio La Volpe announces his retirement as technical director

The 'Bigotón' directed 14 teams since he began his career on the bench in 1983, in addition to the Mexican and Costa Rican teams.


Ricardo Antonio La Volpe has announced his retirement as technical director. The 'Bigotón' directed Toluca at the Apertura 2019 , this being his last club he commanded. F utside of Mexico was coach of  Boca Juniors, Velez Sarsfield, Banfield, FC Pyramids of Egypt and Costa Rica was at the front of the national team.

La Volpe will continue his career in football as a sports director, as stated in an interview for ESPN : "I am choosing to be a sports director, I no longer want to direct. Age has passed me, that pressure has passed me. Today Ricardo La Volpe says "Where to? On the court. I don't get along well with journalists, I don't get along very well with professionals." That is, Ricardo La Volpe will not direct anymore? - No, no ... after what I happened in Toluca, already ... ", commented Ricardo.

La Volpe's career as DT

He finished his walk on the fields as a player in 1983 with the Halcones de Oaxtepec. With them he began to direct, after rescuing them from descending, he decided to sell to the club and became the Angels of Puebla . In 1988 he signed with Atlante, a team that brought him as a footballer to Mexico. After a season with the Colts, he went to Chivas, was unsuccessful and returned with the Barça team.

For the 1992-93 campaign, he got his only league title as technical director. In the league he left Necaxa, León and Monterrey behind. He left the Colts until 1996, in that year he signed with America, lasted 4 games, in one of which he lost 5-0 against Chivas, then fell against Puebla and was fired from Coapa.
