The corona pandemic restrictions also affect fundamental rights. While many accept this or grumble at home, others take to the streets - sometimes without permission.
Berlin (dpa) - Despite a ban on demonstrations, around 1,000 people gathered in Berlin on Saturday to protest against the corona restrictions - at times close to each other. They met in the afternoon on Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in front of the Volksbühne.
Many of them were standing in front of the fence that the police had put up around the square because such rallies are currently not allowed and the police wanted to prevent the square from becoming too crowded.
The police repeatedly used loudspeakers to ask the participants to leave the site. Individuals were arrested. The crowd gradually dispersed in the afternoon.
The protesters belonged to different political currents. Among them were well-known right-wing populists, AfD politicians, conspiracy theorists, but also very many people with no clearly recognizable political orientation. Some people sat on the floor meditating. The police were deployed with almost 200 people. Demonstrators had already gathered on the past four Saturdays.
In Stuttgart, hundreds of people followed the call for the "lateral thinking" initiative and demonstrated against a restriction of fundamental rights during the Corona crisis. Between 350 and 500 people gathered on Stuttgart's Schlossplatz, as the city and the police unanimously reported. At the demonstration called "non-partisan", initiator Michael Ballweg called for compliance with fundamental rights such as freedom of assembly and freedom of belief.
The demonstration took place for the third time. After a first ban on the city, the initiative was allowed to demonstrate a week ago because the Federal Constitutional Court granted an urgent request against the ban.
