Bill Gates: "We are not going to return to normal for one to two years"

LE FIGARO. - Since the beginning of this pandemic, which you had predicted with striking accuracy, you seem to be in contact with the whole world to structure a global response to the challenge of the Covid-19. A call to action was also launched this Saturday at the initiative of the WHO, your foundation and a whole series of States, including France. What are you hoping for?

Bill GATES. - It is true that I gave a conference in 2015, predicting the pandemic and also described in detail, in the New England Review of Medicine , the measures that should have been taken to prepare. The idea was to be ready, when the time came, to increase our testing capacity quickly, and to involve the industry so that it would be able to quickly produce therapy and then vaccines. But very little was finally done. Two foundations, the Wellcome Trust and the Gates Foundation, as well as a number of states had donated a small amount to the Center for Epidemic Preparedness
