Calvados police asked not to intervene during Ramadan

A note, distributed by the chief of police of this department, caused a lively controversy.


It is a note which irritated in high place because it contradicts the official speech according to which the police force respect the confinement in the same way on the whole of the territory. A telex more precisely, sent at the end of last week by the Chief of Staff of the Departmental Directorate of Public Security (DDSP) of Calvados to the heads of service of the Normandy department.

As the month of Ramadan started, this message invites the police of the department not to "intervene in the districts with a high concentration of population following Ramadan" during the entire duration of this month of deprivation and celebration during which the Muslim community for the custom of meeting after sunset, for breaking the fast. The document specifies that "unless harm to persons or serious damage to property (damage by means dangerous for people, of building, of vehicle)" , it is advisable to beware of entering into action "to raise a noise, to control a regrouping
