My husband was very moved by the appalling health crisis we are experiencing. One month after his disappearance, my daughter Sylvie and I wanted to do what he would surely have done: support and thank in his memory the nursing staff, these new heroes of the France village!  Says Ada Uderzo.

These are five plates produced by Albert Uderzo: three plates from Asterix, a plate from Tanguy and Laverdure and a plate from Oumpah-Pah. The expert of this exceptional sale Eric Leroy specifies: “It is an exceptional sale which could only be organized on the relationships of friendship and trust that Artcurial has had for a long time with the Uderzo family. Ada and Sylvie contacted me very naturally in an outburst of completely disinterested generosity. It looks like Albert Uderzo, by the way. Having known and met him on several occasions, he was an extraordinary man, started from nothing, and who remained humble all his life, despite the incredible success of Asterix ... ”

The plate by Tanguy and Laverdure is a very rare Indian ink, taken from the album Escadrille des cigognes published in 1964 and pre-published in 1962 in the newspaper Pilote . Artcurial 2020

The three plates of Asterix put up for auction are Chinese inks on paper from the albums La Galère d'Obélix, Astérix and Latraviata and La Rose et le glaive , each estimated between 80,000 and 120,000 €. The board by Tanguy et Laverdure is a very rare Indian ink, pencil and blue pencil on paper taken from the album Escadrille des cigognes published in 1964 and pre-published in 1962 in the newspaper Pilote (estimate: € 60,000-100,000).

"The estimated total of the charitable sale in favor of hospital staff, truly indicative, amounts to approximately 500,000 euros , comments Eric Leroy, but this could double or even triple, given the quality of the pieces offered. These boards from Uderzo represent a bit of a piece of French society. Let us make it clear that these are museum pieces, and that this is an opportunity in an exceptional context for collectors and others to mobilize in order to make a very symbolic gesture for a good cause. ”

Eric Leroy, sales expert

" In reality, these boards are priceless," admits the expert. Everything is symbolic in this sale. Asterix, Obelix, Idéfix, Falbala, Oumpah-Pah, Tanguy and Laverdure ... are all cheerful characters, which cheer up. When Panoramix gives magic potion to Asterix under the gaze of the village chief, it is easy to understand that behind this emblematic image of the irreducible Gauls fighting against the invader, it is us we are talking about. Resist the virus, stay strong and keep morale, that's what this sale means, and beyond that the magnificent gesture of Ada and Sylvie Uderzo. "
