(CNN Spanish) - The Minister of Public Health of the Dominican Republic, Dr. Rafael Sánchez Cárdenas, reported this Friday that the number of deaths from adulterated alcohol consumption rose to 136 in the last four weeks. So far there have been 216 cases of poisoning from ingesting methanol, the minister explained.
According to Sánchez Cárdenas, 80 people remain hospitalized.
The official said that consumption of home-made alcohol with high levels of methanol has become a major concern for his portfolio.
